Frequency Response & Sampling
Rate
For an analog instrument designed to measure changing
input signals, a key parameter is frequency response,
or bandpass, stated in hertz (Hz). That is a direct
indication of how rapidly the input signal can change,
while still being properly amplified and conditioned by
the instrument. For a digital instrument used in the
same application, the key parameter is the sampling
rate, which is the number of samples that can be
acquired in a specified period of time, typically one
second. Sampling rate is sometimes specified in terms
of frequency response (Hz), but while the two are
related
, they are not the same, and should not be used
interchangeably.
