The Photolastic Division of Vishay Measurements Group,
Inc. manufactures the widest range of photoelastic
coating materials available. All of the materials are
produced in an environmentally controlled "clean
room" to ensure highest quality.
Sheets for Flat Parts
Pre-manufactured sheets from 10 X 10 in (254 X 254 mm)
to 20 X 30 in (508X 762 mm).
Coatings for Contoured Parts
Liquid materials for making plastic coatings for
structures with complex contours that cannot be
satisfactorily coated with flat sheets.
Adhesives
Selection of the proper adhesives for use with the
various photoelastic coatings.
Detailed specifications for these materials are given
in Bulletin S-116, PhotoStress Materials. In addition

Specially designed application kits simplify the
process of preparing and applying the PhotoStress
®
plastic to the surface of the test part.
Model 011 Coating Application & Calibration
Kit
Contains materials for preparation and calibration of
the coating prior to bonding to the surface of the test
part.
Model 012 Sheet Casting Kit
Contains supplies for casting plastic sheets for
contour forming to complex-shaped surfaces.
Model 013 Surface Preparation Kit
Contains hardware for preparing the surface of the
test part to accept the photoelastic coating.
Detailed specifications for these materials are given
in Bulletin S-134, PhotoStress Instruments. In addition

Photoelastic model materials are offered in three
forms: (1) Sheets, (2) Liquids for casting, and (3)
Precast Blocks and Rounds ready for machining. Some of
the prime characteristics essential to the success of
two- and three-dimensional photoelastic model analysis
that are found in these materials are:
- Easy machinability
- Excellent transparency
- Very low time-edge effect
- High sensitivity
Two-Dimensional Model Analysis
Sheet material for two-dimensional plane-stress model
analysis is available in various sizes, thicknesses,
and stiffness (modulus of elasticity).
Three-Dimensional Model Analysis
Materials for three-dimensional model analysis
(stress-freezing) are supplied in liquid form for
casting, and as pre-cast sheets, blocks, and rounds
ready for machining. It is supplied "as
cast", and the surface is unfinished. The material
is fully cured and uniform in mechanical and optical
properties.
