New Dual-MOSMICs Combine Two AGC Amplifiers In One Package: An Industry First For TV Tuner Applications

HEILBRONN, GERMANY - July 23, 1999 - The industry's first monolithic transistor devices to combine two automatic gain controlled (AGC) amplifiers on a single chip were released today by Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. The new Dual-MOSMICs (MOS monolithic integrated circuits) will serve as low-noise input stages for UHF and VHF tuners, allowing designers to combine two bands on a single device, eliminating the need for separate transistors to handle VHF and UHF bandwidths.

Three new Dual-MOSMICs were released today, offering designers a choice of typical transadmittance specifications: 24 mS for the TSDF52424, 30 mS for the TSDF53030, and 40 mS for the TSDF54040. All three of these high-gain devices feature integrated gate protection diodes and resistors and an on-chip biasing network, eliminating the need for a number of external passive components. AGC range is a high 45 dB at 800 MHz for the TSDF54040, TSDF53030, and TSDF52424, while all three devices feature a low noise figure up to 800 MHz.

Combining a high level of integration with surface-mount packaging in a 6-pin SOT 363 with a footprint measuring just 2.05 mm x 2.00 mm with a 1.00 mm height profile, the new Dual-MOSMICs will enable a new generation of miniaturized TV tuners for home entertainment, VCR, satellite, set-top box, and multimedia applications.

"These new Dual-MOSMICs represent a superior new standard for high-volume, mainstream applications, and will additionally provide cost savings by reducing overall component counts and simplifying end product assembly," said Roland Reuschle, Senior Marketing Manager at Vishay.

All three new devices are rated for a 5-V supply voltage, with maximum drain current ratings of 20 mA for the TSDF52424 and TSDF53030 and 30 mA for the TSDF54040.

Samples and production quantities of the new Dual-MOSMICs are available now, with lead times of four to eight weeks for larger orders.
