MALVERN, PENNSYLVANIA - May 12, 2000 - A new family of microprocessor crystals that will save space in a wide range of portable computing, communications, and instrumentation applications was announced today by Vishay Intertechnology. The new XT36C series features a frequency range of 10 MHz to 64 MHz and a slim-line, low-profile surface-mount packaging. A new family of microprocessor crystals that will save space in a wide range of portable computing, communications, and instrumentation applications was announced today by Vishay Intertechnology. The new XT36C series features a frequency range of 10 MHz to 64 MHz and a slim-line, low-profile surface-mount packaging. Dimensions for the new XT36C are 0.315 inch (8 mm) by 0.18 inch (4.6 mm) with a 0.063 inch (1.6 mm) height profile. The leadless, surface-mount package is compatible with reflow solder techniques and is rated for operating temperatures from -10°C to +60°C. Equivalent series resistance for the new devices ranges from 60 ohms to 120 ohms depending on the series resonance frequency. Frequency stability for the XT36C family is ±100 ppm at 25°C, with a frequency tolerance of ±50 ppm. Drive level for the new devices is 100 milliwatts maximum, with a maximum shunt capacitance of 7.0 picofarads. Typical applications for the new XT36C crystals include notebook computers, PDAs, mobile communication devices, digital cameras, home audio systems, automobiles, and peripheral devices such as mini disk drives and PCMCIA cards. Supplied in 1000-piece tape-and-reel form, samples and production quantities of the new XT36C crystals are available now, with lead times of up to nine weeks for larger orders.
