High Luminous Flux LEDs Serve Automotive Lighting and Road Sign Applications: Vishay TELUX™ Series Is a High Luminous Flux LED in Full Color Range

MALVERN, PENNSYLVANIA - May 18, 2000 - A new family of high-intensity LEDs for roadside and automotive traffic signal applications was announced today by Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. The new Vishay Telefunken TELUX^TM LEDs feature a full color range of devices with a wide viewing angle and high luminous flux for vehicle brake lights, taillights, and turn signals, as well as traffic signs, outdoor message panels, and warning lights.

A new family of high-intensity LEDs for roadside and automotive traffic signal applications was announced today by Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. The new Vishay Telefunken TELUX^TM LEDs feature a full color range of devices with a wide viewing angle and high luminous flux for vehicle brake lights, taillights, and turn signals, as well as traffic signs, outdoor message panels, and warning lights.

Offered in red, yellow, true-green, blue-green, blue, and white versions, the new TELUX LEDs are packaged in a clear, industry-standard 7.62 mm square package optimized for maximum light output. Luminous flux for the new devices ranges from 650 mlm for the white TLWW 7600 to 2000 mlm for the red TLWR 7600 at +85°C T_amb. Designed to yield a precise and homogeneous spatial radiation pattern, the TELUX lens allows the use of fresnel optics or parabolic reflectors with consistent results. Two integrated package slots support direct assembly of light guides, reflectors, and external lenses.

"The new TELUX family is the first to combine high-end technologies, an industry standard package, and a full range of colors, which will greatly enlarge the universe of target applications for this device type."

The white TLWW 7600 LED, for example, can be used as a power- and space-efficient replacement for small incandescent lamps. The red TLWR 7600 and yellow TLWY 7600 meets SAE and ECE requirements for automotive red applications and can be used as a direct replacement for HPWA LEDs (Superflux) from Hewlett-Packard, while the blue-green TLWBG 7600 is recommended for green traffic signals, with a typical wavelength of 505 nm. All TLWx7600 devices are designed to perform in direct sunlight at high ambient temperatures and are built on the brightest state-of-the-art LED technologies,AllnGaP and InGaN.

Samples of the new TELUX LEDs are available now. Production quantities are available, with lead times of 2 to 3 weeks for larger orders.
