November 21, 2000 — BCcomponents, one of the world's largest manufacturers of passive components, has announced the launch of its new low ohmic surge “Flash” resistor, the LSR37, which combines high pulse load capability (flashes) with excellent stability and reliability. It is the latest product in BCcomponents' range of High Voltage/High Ohmic resistors and is suitable for a wide range of applications, such as Switch Mode Power Supplies (SMPS) and sound and vision consumer products. Another major advantage of the Flash resistor is its environmental benefit over competitor products. The LSR37 is manufactured using Metal Glaze Technology, which eliminates harmful materials and lessens the potential impact on the environment. It replaces Carbon Composite Resistors, which were the only alternative for applications with high pulses for many years. “The LSR37 features high pulse-loading capability and is ideal for applications with high voltage pulse hazard circuits, such as TV sets and monitor tubes,” said Rene Brech, Product Manager for BCcomponents. “Customers benefit from having a high quality product at a competitive price, with short lead times, in particular knowing that they are buying a more environmentally friendly solution.” The resistor is produced by depositing a metal glazed film on a high-grade ceramic body. The resistors are coated with a light-blue lacquer, which provides electrical, mechanical and climatic protection. The LSR37 Flash resistor is already in full production and is available at a competitive price with short lead times, taped on ammopack or on reel. Datasheets and design-in support are also available and can be found on this website.
