U.S. Electronic Components Conference Features Presentations by Vishay Intertechnology

MALVERN, PENNSYLVANIA - April 2, 2001 - Worldwide market demand for passive electronic components, including resistors, capacitors, and magnetics, is projected to exceed $80 billion in year 2001. New developments in component technology make possible products for consumers and industry that are smaller, able to respond to ever-higher frequencies, and more complex. These facts and others were noted by participants from Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (NYSE: VSH), and other companies at the Capacitor and Resistor Technology Symposium (CARTS) 2001, held 25-30 March at the Hilton Hotel in St. Petersburg, Florida.

CARTS 2001 focused on technological and market trends associated with resistors, capacitors, magnetics, and other electronic "building blocks" used in virtually all products containing electronic circuits, from cell phones and PDAs to computers to cars to medical equipment to satellites. It brought together companies that design, manufacture, and market passive electronic components; researchers from leading academic institutions; and major original-equipment manufacturers. It included an all-day tutorial, seminars on trends and new technologies, presentation of 42 symposium papers, and a market overview by Dennis Zogbi of the Paumanok Group. Presentations by Vishay included technical seminars and the following papers: "Battle for High CV Tantalum Capacitors"; "Capacitor Design Practices for Portable Electronics"; "Foil Resistors Used as Low Energy Electro-Pyrotechnic Initiators"; "Reliable In-Circuit Evaluation of Passive Electronic Components AC Testing on Surface-Mount Ceramic Capacitors"; "Zero TCR Foil Resistor: Ten-Fold Improvement in Temperature Coefficient"

About CARTS: CARTS is sponsored by Components Technology, Inc., in cooperation with the Electronic Components, Assemblies & Materials Association (ECA); the Components, Packaging and Manufacturing Technology Society of IEEE; and the International Microelectronics and Packaging Society (IMAPS). Information can be found at http://www.ecii-ltd.com. CARTS-Europe 2001 will take place 15-19 October at the Radisson SAS Scandinavia Hotel in Copenhagen, Denmark.
