New Vishay Tantamount® Tantalum Chip Capacitor Sets Industry Standard for ESR Rating

Low-profile device provides increased electrical performance in portable end products

MALVERN, PENNSYLVANIA-June 8, 2001-A new solid tantalum chip capacitor that features the industry's lowest equivalent series resistance (ESR) rating for its compact size was announced today by Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (NYSE: VSH).

The new Vishay Sprague 292D molded leadless chip capacitor is optimized for dc-to-dc power conversion and noise filtering applications in high-end portable systems, handheld electronic products, and hearing aids.

Featuring a compact 0805 footprint, the 292D is available in two case options, with either a 1.2-mm (0.047 in.) or 1.55-mm (0.061 in.) maximum height profile, allowing higher density circuit layouts. The new device features wrap-around tin terminations and is surface-mountable, simplifying the design and manufacturing process.

Built on Vishay's proprietary Tantamount® technology, each 292D capacitor provides an ESR rating that is between 20% to 40% lower than any equivalent device on the market, with ESR values ranging from 3.5Ω to 5.0Ω at 100 kHz. Voltage rating options are 4 WVDC, 6.3 WVDC, and 10 WDVC for devices in both case types, with capacitance levels ranging from 3.3 µF to 33 µF. Capacitance tolerance options of ±10% or ±20% are available. The devices are rated for an extended -55°C to +85°C operating temperature range and a derating temperature of +125°C.

Samples of the full 292D product line are available now. Production quantities of specific versions of the 292D capacitors-the 4.7-µF at 10 V, and 10-µF at 10 V devices-are currently available. Production quantities of the complete 292D series will be available in October 2001 with lead times of six to eight weeks for larger orders.
