Vishay Unveils Second-Generation MOS Monolithic IC (MOSMIC™) Family

Featuring Improved AGC Performance, New Surface-Mount Devices Save Space in TV Tuner Applications

MALVERN, PENNSYLVANIA-July 6, 2001-A new series of MOS monolithic integrated circuits (MOSMICs) that will allow designers to upgrade the performance of UHF and VHF tuners at no additional cost was announced today by Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (NYSE: VSH). Serving as a low-noise RF input stage, the new "X" devices provide improved automatic gain control (AGC) and cross modulation behavior compared with previous-generation MOSMICs, setting a new standard for TV tuner, VCR, satellite, set-top box, and multimedia applications.

Six new MOSMIC devices, each available in three surface-mount package types, were released today, offering designers a choice of typical transadmittance specifications from 24 mS to 40 mS. All six high-gain (>20 dB at 800 MHz) devices feature integrated protection diodes and an on-chip biasing network, eliminating the need for a number of external passive components. And since MOSMICs can be switched off directly by the PLL in tuner circuits, external switching transistors can be eliminated as well.

AGC performance has been improved to provide greater linearity. Compared with previous generation MOSMICs, Gate 1 input capacitance has been reduced by a third. All six devices feature a low 1.3-dB noise figure up to 800 MHz. Cross-modulation has been optimized by means of an on-chip control circuit that is unaffected by the voltages applied to the gate. The minimum Xmod level is 100 dBmV at a 40-dB AGC.

The new S594TX, S595TX, S593TX, S504TX, S505TX, and S503TX are rated for a 5-V supply voltage and can be used as drop-in replacements for previous-generation MOSMICs with the same transadmittance specifications. Packaged in the surface-mount SOT-143, SOT-143R, or SOT343R, samples are available now. Production quantities will be available in early Q4 2001, with lead times of 8 to 10 weeks for larger orders.

Vishay Intertechnology, Inc., a Fortune 1,000 Company listed on the NYSE (VSH), is one of the world's largest manufacturers of discrete semiconductors (diodes, rectifiers, transistors, and optoelectronics and selected ICs) and passive electronic components (resistors, capacitors, inductors, sensors, and transducers). These components are used in virtually all types of electronic devices and equipment, in the industrial, computing, automotive, consumer, telecommunications, military, aerospace, and medical markets. Its product innovations, successful acquisition strategy, and ability to provide "one-stop shop" service have made Vishay a global industry leader.
