MALVERN, PENNSYLVANIA - October 3, 2001 - Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (NYSE: VSH) has announced a new surface-mount flip chip resistor featuring ultra-precision Bulk Metal® "Z" foil, which provides industry-lowest TCR values, as well as excellent long-term stability, low noise, and tight tolerance options.

The new patent-pending VFC1506 flip chip resistor represents the latest advance in Vishay's proprietary Bulk Metal foil technology, which uses a special foil of resistive Nickel-Chromium, to provide performance far beyond any other resistor technology available. The VFC1506 is designed to deliver precision performance in high-volume analog applications including feedback, gain setting, voltage division, and current sensing in telecommunications, instrumentation and computing systems.

The proprietary "Z" foil incorporated in the VFC1506 offers an exceptionally low TCR of <0.5 ppm/°C over the complete temperature range of -55°C to +175°C. The device's power handling capability is enhanced by 50% through installation of the resistive element with the foil side facing the PCB. A protective overcoating isolates the foil from the PCB, while the overall device design offers a degree of mechanical protection from handling and installation stresses, and offers excellent heat transfer. With a one-sided termination, the VFC1506's economical flip chip construction reduces manufacturing costs while maintaining all aspects of the time-tested Bulk Metal foil technology.

The VFC1506 is available in any value in a resistance range from 10 Ω to 25 kΩ, with tolerances from ±0.25% down to ±0.01%. Current noise is a low <0.010μV_(rms) per volt of applied voltage.

The device's load life stability is ±0.01% maximum change in resistance under full rated power at +70°C for 2000 hours. Shelf life stability for the device is 50 ppm (0.005%) over several years. Measurements for the VFC1506 are 0.150 in. by 0.062 in. (3.81 mm by 1.57 mm), with a maximum height of 0.025 in. (0.64 mm).

Samples and production quantities of the VFC1506 are available now, with a lead time of six weeks for larger orders.
