New Vishay Dale IR Touch Panel Provides Compact, Attractive and Easy-to-Integrate Display Solution

MALVERN, PENNSYLVANIA - January 18, 2002 - A new 12.1-inch infrared touch panel combining a slim-line profile, fast response times, and consistent performance under various lighting conditions was announced today by Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (NYSE: VSH).

Featuring a polished bezel-and-optical-filter assembly along with compact electronics and frame design, the new Vishay Dale TIP-4131SCE is compatible with 12.1-inch displays from a number of suppliers. Typical applications will include medical instrumentation, machine and process controllers, point of sale devices, public information kiosks, banking terminals, and military systems.

Vishay's TIP-4131SCE touch panel combines infrared LED emitters, phototransistor detectors, scanning electronics, a microprocessor-based controller, a bezel-and-filter assembly, and mounting hardware. A clear hard-coated anti-glare filter that is bonded to the bezel increases the contrast ratio of the display while protecting the display face and electronics. A gasket between the sleek bezel case and front panel provides a splash-proof seal.

Vishay's unique, patented scanning and logic system makes the panel virtually immune to high or changing ambient light conditions. Several standard filters are available to provide cost-effective solutions for different display technologies. Response time for the TIP-4131SCE is a fast < 50 mS.

The panel operator may initialize report modes, which include ENTER, EXIT, CONTINUOUS, and TRACKING modes, singly or in combination. Hardware and software handshaking, baud rates, and X-Y coordinate invert features are jumper selected.

Integrated controller and mounting hardware comes standard and is designed to fit the Sharp LQ121S1DG11 and other 12.1-inch color LCD displays. Simple touch panel integration is provided by optional PC-based software, and drivers for the device are designed to emulate mice in Windows® and DOS applications.

The new touch panels are available with separate mounting hardware (TIP-4131SCE) orready-to-mount (TIP-4131SCE-1) versions. Samples and production quantities are available now, with lead times of six to eight weeks for larger orders.
