Vishay Completes Exceptionally Bright, Power SMD LED Series: Four Brilliant Colors Now Available With Luminous Intensity up to 1250 mcd at Drive Current up to 50 mA

MALVERN, PENNSYLVANIA — March 14, 2003 — Four exceptionally bright, surface-mount, power LEDs featuring luminous intensity up to 1250 mcd at a 50-mA drive current were announced today by Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (NYSE: VSH).

The new products complete the advanced Vishay Semiconductors TLMx33xx series with brilliant red, super red, soft orange, and yellow LEDs designed to meet the performance demands of automotive and outdoor applications.

Built on high-efficiency AllnGaP technology, the TLMx33xx series takes Vishay's SMD package technology and adapts it in an innovative way for assembling high-power LED chips. As a result, the new devices are able to handle forward currents up to 50 mA in a standard PLCC-2 package outline measuring 3 mm by 2.8 mm.

The new red (617 nm), soft orange (605 nm), and yellow (588 nm) LEDs are available in luminous intensity ranges of >200 mcd, 250 mcd to 640 mcd, 320 mcd to 800 mcd, and 400 mcd to 1250 mcd. Super-red (630 nm) LEDs are available in luminous intensity ranges of >160 mcd, 160 mcd to 400 mcd, and 250 mcd to 800 mcd.

TLMx33xx LEDs are luminous intensity, color, and forward-voltage categorized per packing unit. A low luminous intensity ratio per packing unit of 1.6 or lower ensures even lighting in dashboard illumination; indicators and backlighting for audio, video, and LCD switches; traffic signals and signs; and illuminated billboards.

All four devices feature a 120° angle of half intensity and a lead-frame package embedded in a white thermoplast. The interior reflector is filled with a clear epoxy. The TLMx33xx series features thermal resistance of 400 K/W and is rated for an operating temperature range of –40°C to +100°C. In addition to being rated ESD class 2, the new LEDs are suitable for all soldering methods according to CECC.

Provided in 8-mm tape-and-reel form, samples and production quantities of the new TLMx33xx LEDs are available now, with lead times of four to eight weeks for larger orders.
