Vishay CSM Current-Sensing Foil Resistor Named EDN Hot 100 Product of 2003

MALVERN, PENNSYLVANIA — January 21, 2004 — Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (NYSE: VSH), a leading global manufacturer of discrete semiconductors and passive electronic components, has had one of its new products selected as a "Hot 100 Product of 2003" by EDN magazine. The Vishay CSM current-sensing foil resistor is included in the "Components" category of EDN's "Hot 100 Product of 2003" list. The list is compiled by EDN's technical editors, who analyze and compare the industry's product introductions and make their selections at the end of each year.

"Of the thousands of products that manufacturers announce each year and the hundreds that EDN reports about, a select few hot products really make our readers sit up and take notice," said Maury Wright, EDN Editor in Chief. "From chips to boards to software to test equipment, the 2003 Hot 100 are the products that we, the editors, feel are sure winners." More information is included in EDN's December 11, 2003 issue and on www.edn.com.

The Vishay Foil Resistors CSM series of ultra-precision, 2-milliohm, surface-mount, current-sensing resistors features a four-terminal (Kelvin) design and TCR values as low as plus/minus 15 ppm/degrees C (the lowest TCR in the industry) for high stability and performance in voltage division and precision current-sensing applications. Intended for switching linear power supplies, power amplifiers, and measurement instrumentation, the compact CSM2512 and CSM3637 resistors feature an all-welded construction made up of a Bulk Metal® resistive element with 60/40 tin/lead-plated copper terminations. Vishay's Bulk Metal technology enables the new resistors to provide superior TCR performance over larger, competing devices, as well as excellent long-term stability and ultra-precision tolerances down to plus/minus 0.1% for 2 milliohms resistance.

"Product innovation has always been a key part of our successful business strategy," said Dr. Felix Zandman, Vishay's Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer. "I am particularly gratified by the fact that the Vishay product chosen by EDN uses the patented Bulk Metal foil technology first introduced by Vishay in 1962 when the Company was founded. During the last four decades," explained Dr. Zandman, "Vishay has grown tremendously, and has gone from being a leader in one product area - foil resistors - to being one of the largest manufacturers of discrete semiconductors and passive electronic components, and a global industry leader. Yet even in our oldest product category, we continue to roll out new components with improved performance to meet customer needs."
