Vishay’s New Dual-Output LDO Regulators With 48 µA Ground Current Convert 2.25 V to 5.5 V Inputs to Outputs as Low as 1.5 V at Current Levels of 150 mA and 300 mA

Compact Package Options Enable High Efficiency and Space Savings in Portable Electronics

SANTA CLARA, CALIFORNIA — December 6, 2005 — Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (NYSE: VSH) today announced the release of four compact dual-output low-dropout (LDO) regulators capable of converting 2.25 V to 5.5 V inputs to outputs as low as 1.5 V at current levels of 150 mA and 300 mA. Operating with exceptional efficiency, the new devices provide a low ground current of 48 µA.

The new SiP2210, SiP2211, SiP2213, and SiP2213 LDO regulators are designed to provide space savings and enhanced electrical performance in portable electronic devices such as cell phones, PDAs, MP3 players, and wireless modems.

Each part is available in a choice of two lead (Pb)-free packages: a very small 3 mm by 3 mm MLP33-10 PowerPAK® package with a fixed output or a MLP44-16 PowerPAK package with an adjustable output. All four devices are capable of supplying 150 mA from output 1 and 300 mA from output 2.

The SiP2210 and SiP2211 are pin-for-pin replacements for the MIC2210 and MIC2211 and are rated for a low dropout voltage of 65 mV at 100 mA and low ground current. Both feature independently enabled outputs, and the SiP2210 also includes an additional open-drain driver output capable of sinking 150 mA, as well as integrated POR (power-on reset) protection.

The SiP2213 and SiP2214 are pin-for-pin replacements for the MIC2213 and MIC2214. In the SiP2213, the outputs are sequenced at power on, with output 1 settling before output 2 begins turning on. Both devices also feature an open-drain driver output capable of sinking 150 mA, as well as POR protection with an adjustable delay that can be set to alert the processor when the output of the regulator has reached and settled at its designated voltage.

In addition to low dropout values and low power consumption, the new devices offer extremely low noise of 30 µV with the addition of a bypass capacitor. Protection features include undervoltage lockout, output-current limiting, and thermal shutdown.

Samples and production quantities of the SiP2210/11/13/14 are available now, with lead times of seven to eight weeks for larger orders.

Vishay Intertechnology, Inc., a Fortune 1,000 Company listed on the NYSE (VSH), is one of the world's largest manufacturers of discrete semiconductors (diodes, rectifiers, transistors, and optoelectronics and selected ICs) and passive electronic components (resistors, capacitors, inductors, sensors, and transducers).
