June 13, 2007 Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (NYSE: VSH) today announced the release of a compact new 4-line ESD-protection array designed to protect dual high-speed USB ports or up to four other high-frequency signal lines against transient voltage signals up to 15 kV. The new array is packaged in the leadless LLP75, with a 1.6-mm by 1.6-mm footprint and an ultra-low profile of 0.6 mm (VBUS054B-HSF) or 0.75 mm (VBUS054B-HS3) to minimize the board space required for active ESD protection in a wide range of portable electronic systems, including portable and handheld computing, communications, industrial, automotive, and medical applications. The new device features a low capacitance of <1 pF and a low typical leakage current of <0.1 µA at the maximum working voltage of 5 V. The ESD protection array offers a breakthrough voltage of typical 6.5 V (at 1 mA), and a maximum clamping voltage of 15 V at 3 A. The VBUS054B provides transient protection for one data line as per IEC 61000 4 2 (ESD) at 15 kV (air and contact discharge) and IEC 61000 4 5 (lightning) from 3 A (tp = 8/20µs). It is also compliant with RoHS 2002/95/EC and WEEE 2002/96/EC. Samples of the new ESD bus port-protection array in the compact LLP75 package are available now. Production quantities will be available in Q2 2007, with lead times of ten to twelve weeks for large orders.
