MALVERN, Pa. — March 12, 2013 — Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (NYSE: VSH) today announced that its PRAHT series of high-precision thin film SMD wraparound chip resistor arrays has received a 2012 Design News Golden Mousetrap Award in the category of Electronics & Test: Analog/Power Management/Control. Optimized for high-temperature down-hole and aeronautics applications, Vishay Sfernice PRAHT resistors are the first such products on the market to offer the combination of an operating temperature range to + 215 C and industry-high maximum storage temperature up to + 230 C.

Design News’ Golden Mousetrap Awards recognize engineering innovation and creativity in product design. This year, awards were given in five major categories: Electronics & Test; Automotive; Automation & Control; Design Tools: Hardware & Software; and Materials & Assembly. Winners were chosen from a record number of entries by Design News’ editors and a new Advisory Board of thought leaders from the design engineering industry.

To increase aircraft fuel efficiency, manufacturers are moving electronics closer to their function in order to decrease the weight of the aircraft by reducing cabling. This change has created new performance requirements for electronic components, including the need for resistors that can provide long-term reliability at high temperatures above + 155 C.

With their operating temperature range to + 215 C, industry-high maximum storage temperature up to + 230 C, and load life stability of 0.7 percent, devices in the Vishay Sfernice PRAHT series of thin film SMD wraparound chip resistor arrays are ideal for aircraft engine and braking systems. In addition, for down-hole applications the devices' high-temperature performance allows extraction tools to dig deeper in the ground.
