MALVERN, Pa. — Sep. 25, 2015 — Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (NYSE: VSH) today announced that its SiC530CD 30 A VRPower integrated power stage with PS-4 mode light load support for notebooks/ultrabooks has been recognized by Electronic Products China magazine and 21IC as a winner in the 13th Annual Top-10 Power Product Awards. The SiC530CD was honored for its achievements in high density and power efficiency, as well as its compact footprint of < 16mm2.

The Top-10 Power Product Awards have become the industry benchmark for innovative DC/DC solutions. A pannel of experts chose the winners from a shortlist of products selected by the editors of 21IC and Electronic Products China based on their innovative design, significant advancement in technology or application, and substantial achievement in price and performance.

Packaged in a compact 3.5 mm x 4.5 mm PowerPAK package, the SiC530CD integrates a high-performance driver, as well as the high-side and low-side MOSFETs needed for a synchronous buck regulator. This unique package construction minimizes stray inductance and resistance, allowing switching frequencies in excess of 1.5 MHz and currents of 30 A continuous and up to 40 A peak current. Compared with Vishay’s previous-generation discrete solution, the new SiC530CD device occupies a mere 45 percent of the board area without compromising on efficiency. With current requirements increasing by more than 50 percent for next-generation notebook/ultrabook platforms, this footprint reduction allows for a more powerful machine without compromising industrial and aesthetic design.

To address the low-power efficiency requirements of today’s high-performance notebooks/ultrabooks, the SiC530CD supports two different operating states. When in diode emulation mode, the device attains higher converter efficiency under light load situations. In PS-4 mode, the driver in the SiC530CD will shut off the high-side and low-side MOSFET, reducing current consumption to typically 5 A. This feature is important to achieving the low standby currents needed for the PS4 state in ultrabooks. The device can easily be woken up from this state within 5s, allowing notebooks/ultrabooks to wake up fast from sleep states

The Electronic Products China Top-10 Power Product Awards were presented during a ceremony at the 2015 Power Technology Conference held on September 24 at The Presidential Hotel Beijing.
