New WSL0603 Power Metal Strip® Resistor
The Key Benefits:
Combines low resistance values, tight resistance tolerance, and low RTC values to facilitate better current-sensing accuracy than equivalent thick film solutions
Available in an all-welded construction that contributes to its superior electrical performance
Features very low inductance, excellent frequency response, and low thermal EMF
Enables designers to use a single low-value resistor in place of larger components or multiple high-value resistors running in parallel
Allows use of lower-cost ICs in design of smaller and lighter end products
Simplifies manufacturing process through compatibility with automated assembly equipment
The Key Applications:
Current sensing, voltage division, and pulse applications for power management in cell phones and pagers; electronic automotive systems including engine controls, audio electronics, and climate controls; and disc drive motor control and dc to dc converters in computers
The News:
Vishay's New 0.1-W Surface-Mount Power Metal Strip Resistor Delivers Industry-Low 15 mΩ Resistance for Compact 0603 Package Size
Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (NYSE: VSH) announces the release of a new 0.1-W surface-mount Power Metal Strip® resistor that is the industry's smallest such device to combine a low 15-mΩ to 100-mΩ resistance value range, a tight tolerance of 1%, and low RTC values down to ±75 ppm/°C.
Provides superior electrical performance resulting from a proprietary processing technique and all-welded construction
Allows designers to use less-expensive ICs and helps end systems to operate at maximum performance
Available with a solid metal nickel-chrome alloy resistive element
Key Device Specifications:
• Power rating of 0.1 W
• Very low inductance of 0.5 nH to 5 nH
• Resistance values ranging from 0.015 Ω to 0.1 Ω
• Tight tolerances of ±1.0% and ±0.5%
• Dimensions of 0.060 in. by 0.030in. by 0.013 in. [1.52 mm by 0.76 mm by 0.330 mm]
The Perspective: Vishay's new 0.1-W surface-mount Power Metal Strip resistor ― the industry's smallest such device to combine a low 15-mΩ to 100-mΩ resistance value range, tight tolerance of 1%, and low RTC values down to ±75 ppm/°C – facilitates improved current-sensing accuracy, which in turn allows designers to use lower-cost ICs. The WSL0603 resistor may be used in lieu of larger components or multiple high-value resistors running in parallel to provide space savings on the printed circuit board, thereby enabling design of smaller and lighter end products.
Availability: Samples and production quantities of the new WSL0603 resistor are available now, with lead times of four to five weeks for larger orders.
