A typical Floating Production Storage Offshore (FPSO) system
|
Application Requirement
A challenge confronting offshore engineers was finding the most effective way to monitor the load of a drag chain in turret transfer systems being used on Floating Production Storage Offloading (FPSO) vessels. The vessels are used as permanently moored offloading stations for sub-sea wellheads.
Customer Concern
The moored FPSO “weather-vanes” around the vessel turret system to minimize push/pull forces. The need to undertake load monitoring is due to the push/pull forces that occur when pipes are extended or withdrawn between the mooring vessel and the loading tanker. These forces could create an overload situation leading to pipeline breakages and oil spillage.
Vishay Solution
Use of a KOSD double-ended Shear Beam Load Cells provide easily engineered robust mechanical assembly within this physically demanding environment. Vishay supplies suitable instrumentation that is fully calibrated for the application parameters.
