In the food and dairy industry, the requirements to measure pressure and hydrostatic level are many and various. Most of the measurement requirements are challenging in that the environment can be hostile (under wash down conditions plus Process temperatures can vary wildly depending upon the actual plant type and Cleaning In Place (CIP)) Typical applications vary from very low level measurements (approx. 400mm height) required for balance tanks to Large Silos at high process temperatures in Yoghurt incubation tanks (up to 15 meters).
Another requirement of Pressure Sensors in the Food and Dairy Industry is to have as flush a Process Connection as possible, so as to avoid dead areas where bacteria can develop, leading to problems with the finished product. There are numerous types of hygienic process connections, such as Tri-Clamp, Varivent, DIN/Milk Coupling, DRD, SMS etc.
System Solutions
Vishay Transducer Systems offers a full range of pressure and level instruments, which are actively temperature compensated to work with CIP Systems. All Process connections are available in the 2000 and 8000 Series, Level switching is accomplished by use of the VSC and VSS resonant switches, for highly viscous and sticky media, we offer the KLS, Capacitive Level switch, which can be tuned to the individual process medium.
Using our extensive knowledge of customers processes, we are able to specify and supply solutions for most level and pressure applications from simple tank level overfill switches to full process control systems for tank farms and food plants.
