Winder with Rider Roll System

Application Requirement
Paper machine winder and slitter zones require a force and position feedback control system with separate controls for each side of the roll.

Customer Concern
The system must be capable of maintaining precise yet variable web tension on the winder and/or slitter as the roll diameter increases. Specific requirements include gentle contact with the core, high nip-load accuracy, and dynamic force detection to prevent kickouts.

Vishay Transducers has been delivering systems for controlling nip loads in winders, slitters, rewinders, calenders, and press section zones for over 30 years. Our experienced engineers produce force measurement blocks, cylinders, valves, and position control units based upon system specifications. Vishay systems provide optimal performance for many different machines and machine zones. Each control unit is a digital, multi-channel, servo controller that is specially designed for force- and positioning-control loops.

The Vishay Rider Roll System (RRS) for winders and slitters is a force- and position-control system with separate controls for each side. The system features soft “core” contact with high nip-load accuracy and dynamic force detection to prevent kickouts.

For rewinders, Vishay Transducers supplies a system with correction for variable web widths. This system is also available with single channel pressure control.

The Vishay Transducers press-control system provides pressure and position control of the nip load in the press section or calender. The system designed for calendar zones also includes correction for changing arm angles.
