Exact web tension must be measured and maintained throughout a heat-treated, sheet steel galvanizing line.

Precise tension measurement is required at all cleaning, heating, laminating, and reeling zones to ensure product quality.
Vishay Solution
Vishay Nobel installed FMU Tensiometers beneath existing roller bearings in all required zones. Unique FMU Tensiometers are designed to measure strip tension from 1 kN up to 1000 kN, depending upon the wrap angle of the strip.
Two tensiometers, one at each end of the measured roll, were connected to an AST3-P Transmitter to derive the following control outputs: a 4-mA to 20-mA analog output for the PID controller, one relay used as watch dog error annunciator, and a second relay output for low- or high-tension control.
