New TrenchFETs® Set To Support 42-V Automotive Systems, Set Records for On-Resistance in TO-220 and D2PAK
SANTA CLARA, CA - July 21, 2000 - In a move to support the upcoming transition to a 42-V bus in automobiles, Siliconix incorporated (NASDAQ NMS: SILI), an 80.4%-owned subsidiary of Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (NYSE: VSH), today announced a series ofTrenchFET® power MOSFETs that give designers new options for forthcoming passenger car designs and for commercial diesel vehicle applications wherea higher-voltage standard is already in use.
Four devices released today each set records for on-resistance for their respective voltage ratings and package styles: 10.5 milliohms for the 100-V SUP85N10-10(TO-220) and SUB85N10-10 (D2PAK). On-resistance forthe nearest competitor at 100-V is 40% higher. Two 75-V devices in the TO-220 (SUP85N08-08) and D2PAK (SUB85N08-08) are also record-breakers with 8 milliohms on-resistance. All four TrenchFETs can handle up to 85 A of current.
The new TrenchFETs will be used to drive motors and replace relays in 42-V bus cars, while the most common application in commercial diesel vehicle applications will be fuel injector drivers. The 100-V and 75-V options provide alternatives for designers depending on whether maximum breakdown voltage or minimal on-resistance is the key design factor.
For most applications, either the 75-V or 100-V devices will provide enhanced performance over any other solution on the market without anyneed to cut corners on headroom," said Swapan Banerjee, Marketing Directorat Vishay Siliconix. "That means the increased reliability of a powerMOSFET solution with a minimal increase in solution cost."
For applications where a higher level of on-resistance is acceptable, Vishay is introducing a fifth device with a maximum rating of 25milliohms. The SUD40N10-25 combines the 100-V breakdown voltage rating with a 40-A maximum current rating and surface-mount DPAK packaging.
Samples and production quantities of the new TrenchFETs are available now, with lead times of six to eight weeks for larger orders.
