MALVERN, PENNSYLVANIA --December 15, 2000-- Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (NYSE: VSH) today announced that it has shipped its 150,000,000,000th Vishay Telefunken MELF glass diode on March 31. A ubiquitous component used for applications from high-speed switching computer in cell phones and computer motherboards to frequency tuning in AM and FM radios, Vishay produces more than 10 billion MELF glass diodes annually and is the number one supplier in Europe of these devices and the second largest supplier worldwide.

Making the announcement was Gerhard Speidel, Vice President of Vishay's Diodes, Rectifiers, and Transistor business.

"This milestone comes at an auspicious moment, as demand for our glass diode products is greater than ever," Mr. Speidel said. " In 1999, we increased our diode manufacturing capacity by 25% compared with the previous year, and we will implement an additional 30% increase in the year 2000."

Diodes encased in glass are the most cost-effective solution for the wide range of applications in which they are used. Vishay has led the industry in reducing the size of these devices and in developing innovative packaging styles that make them easier to affix to circuit boards with high-speed assembly equipment. The company's MicroMELF diodes are the smallest such products on the market and feature a unique flat surface that greatly simplifies the manufacturing process for Vishay customers.

"A glass diode is a relatively simple component, but manufacturing them by the billion to world-class quality standards is no easy task," Mr. Speidel added. "Vishay's expertise developed over a period of 30 years is unique in the industry and ensures that our customers have the quality and the volumes of devices they need, whatever the application or end product."

Vishay's glass diode manufacturing facilities include ISO-9001 certified plants in Austria, Hungary, and China using fully automated production equipment and proprietary high-volume manufacturing techniques pioneered by Vishay.
