BCcomponents to upgrade 198 PHR capacitor range specifications by 30 %
March 13, 2001 — As part of a continuing process of product assessment, BCcomponents today announces upgraded specifications for its 198 PHR series snap-in electrolytic capacitor.
Roger Appelo, Product Manager at BCcomponents, explains, “The specifications of our products are determined by extensive testing in our own R&D laboratories. However, with the 198 PHR, our customers have found that the actual specification of the product in use is on average 30 % above our own findings in terms of impedance and ESR performance”.
From today, BCcomponents is formally increasing the specification on the 198 PHR. For existing customers, the move represents an ‘in-application upgrade' which does not require a re-approval of the component. For new customers, the 198 represents a highly specified, competitively priced solution.
The 198 series was developed in close co-operation with a leading motor control manufacturer. Both companies have continued to test and develop the 198 since its initial launch in December 1999.
John Aldridge, Global Industrial Director of the newly formed Consumer Electronics division of BCcomponents comments, “This is precisely the reason why BCcomponents is a preferred supplier for quality white goods manufacturers. The 198 was already a great product, but with revised specifications, it is even better".
The range is primarily targeted at motor control applications, such as domestic washing machines and pumps, industrial applications such as motor controls, cranes and forklift trucks. The 198 series offers exceptionally low ESR, improved ripple current capabilities and long life. Prior to its introduction, customers had to choose between the large can size with high specification, or compromise performance using smaller cans. The 198 PHR was the first to offer both exceptional performance and smaller can sizes.
The range includes more than 50 differing products. Sizes range from 22 mm x 25 mm to 35 mm x 60 mm. Rated capacitance range from 56 up to 680 μF, with useful life (at 85 °C) of 15,000 hours. BCcomponents reiterates its continuing commitment to innovative new design and the continual development of its existing product range: refining and enhancing performance to meet the needs of its customer's applications.
