BCcomponents makes automotive 42 V a reality
November 6, 2001 — BCcomponents is launching a framework for customer-specific automotive qualified components based on its latest series of electrolytic capacitors — the 100 series. The company is working alongside manufacturers to customize specifications of the product for use in a range of automotive applications related to the 42-Volt boardnet.
The introduction of the new series further extends BCcomponents' position as Europe's — and one of the world's — market leaders for electrolytic capacitors and reinforces the company's commitment to becoming a key development partner for the automotive industry, especially in the area of 42 V electronics. The 100 series is optimized for use in automotive 42 V boardnet applications, such as Integrated Starter Alternator (ISA), X-by-Wire systems and DC/DC converters for transforming 42 V down to 12 V.

The 100 series is the single most important breakthrough so far in passive components, making us a major player for 42 V technology,” said Stephan George, Global Industry Director (GID) for the automotive industry at BCcomponents. “We are putting together a framework for customer specific products based on our series of elcaps with exceptional performance, and will continue to work alongside customers to fulfill their specific requirements.”
The 100 series offers optimized thermal characteristics of 125 °C, extreme electrical performance and vibration resistance, as well as high ripple current capability, ensuring maximum capability in dealing with the harsh automotive environment. Electrolytic capacitors are key components in the realization of the 42 V boardnet, currently being developed by all major OEMs and system houses. The 100 series can also be used in other applications, such as industrial motor controls, which demand a product with extreme thermal and electrical performance.
The appointment of a global industry director (GID) is a recent initiative, underlining the company's commitment to focusing on working together with industry sectors to develop customer-specific products.
Samples of the 100 series are available now, enabling early design-in. BCcomponents can also offer design-in support on request, helping customers to identify the best choice for their system by simulating the behavior of the elcaps.
