MALVERN, PENNSYLVANIA - April 10, 2002 - Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (NYSE: VSH) has launched its second-generation family of dual MOSMICs® - MOS monolithic integrated circuits that combine two automatic gain controlled (AGC) amplifiers on a single chip.

Rated for 5-V operation, the new "X" series dual MOSMICs (previously marketed under the Vishay Telefunken name) provide superior automatic gain control, cross-modulation behavior, and dynamic performance when used as low-noise input stages for UHF and VHF tuners in television sets and set-top boxes. The new devices serve as drop-in- and function-compatible upgrades to Vishay's previous-generation MOSMICs, allowing designers to upgrade system performance at no additional cost.

The dual MOSMICs released today offer a choice of typical transadmittance specifications: 24 ms for the TSDF52424X/XR and TSDF02424X/XR, 30 ms for the TSDF53030X/XR and TSDF03030X/XR, and 40 ms for the TSDF54040X/XR and TSDF04040X/XR. All six devices feature a low noise figure of just 1 dB at 200 MHz, and enhanced typical cross modulation of 105 dBV at a 40-dB AGC. The X series dual MOSMICs also feature reduced input capacitance as low as 1.7 pF, an improvement of nearly 20% over previous-generation devices.

Integrated gate protection diodes and resistors and an on-chip biasing network allow designers to eliminate a number of external passive components. The combination of two AGC amplifiers on a single chip allows designers to combine two bands on a single device, eliminating the need for separate ICs to handle VHF and UHF bandwidths. All six devices are packaged in a compact SOT363 surface-mount package that allows reverse pinning and saves space with dimensions of just 2.05 mm by 1.25 mm.

With their improved performance, the X series dual MOSMICs represent a new industry standard for high-volume, cost-effective applications. A general type designation enables designers to identify the most suitable upgrade device for a given application. The TSDF52424X/XR, TSDF53030X/XR, TSDF54040X/XR, TSDF02424X/XR, TSDF03030X/XR, and TSDF04040X/XR are rated for a 5-V supply voltage and can be used to replace previous-generation MOSMICs with equivalent transadmittance specifications.

Samples and production quantities of the new dual MOSMICs are available now, with lead times of four to eight weeks for larger orders.
