Vishay Siliconix 500-kHz PWM Controller IC Is analogZONE Product of the Year Winner
SANTA CLARA, Calif.—(BUSINESS WIRE)—Jan. 27, 2004--Siliconix incorporated (NASDAQ: SILI), an 80.4%-owned subsidiary of Vishay Intertechnology Inc. (NYSE: VSH), today announced that its Si9122 family of 500-kHz PWM controller ICs has been honored with an analogZONE (www.analogzone.com) 2003 "Product of the Year" award in the category of Best Architecture in DC/DC Controllers.
The Si9122 and Si9123 are the industry's first 500-kHz PWM controller ICs to combine two integrated MOSFET drivers and integrated signal drivers for secondary synchronous rectification. Offering a compact and efficient solution for fixed telecom applications that require power supplies in the range of 20 W to 150 W, these half-bridge devices operate over a 12- to 72-V input voltage range, drive both primary-side MOSFETs, and provide timing for the secondary synchronous rectifiers.
"The novelty with these Vishay dc-to-dc controllers, and it's a novelty that will be picked up by design engineers, is the provision of a secondary side control," noted Paul McGoldrick, analogZONE editor in chief. "The input dc voltage is switched by driver-controlled external MOSFETs and the switching voltage is transformed to a secondary where MOSFETs, instead of Schottkys, are used to rectify the voltage to dc. However, the MOSFETs are controlled by secondary drivers on the IC, coupled to them by a pulse transformer, increasing the efficiency to over 90%. And, the parts are very attractively priced."
Product of the Year award winners were selected from those reviewed throughout the year by analogZONE's McGoldrick and Section Editor Lee Goldberg, with specific emphasis on the product's performance, anticipated market success, and likely contribution to the field of analog engineering and product design.
The Si9122 and Si9123 controller ICs also are suitable for use in medium-power isolated power supplies from 20 W to 150 W, central office switching equipment, distributed power systems, compact power modules, networking, and the Internet infrastructure.
Samples and production quantities of the ICs are available now, with lead times of eight weeks for larger orders.
