Vishay BLH Web Tension Transmitter Measures Up to Four Zones with 750,000-Count Resolution, Output of 4 mA to 20 mA
MALVERN, PENNSYLVANIA — May 11, 2007 — Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (NYSE: VSH) announces the release of the DXt-40 multi-zone web tension transmitter. The DXt-40, part of the Vishay Systems product portfolio, measures up to four independent web points, or zones, to ensure maximum operating speeds without belt, felt, or product breakage. Each zone is precisely measured with 750,000-count resolution and produces a corresponding high-resolution output of 4 mA to 20 mA.
The DXt-40 measures each system transducer or roll independently, thereby allowing one unit to monitor multiple tension zones. Patented technology synchronizes independent A/D converters so that multiple transducers or rolls (zones) can be evaluated simultaneously. Integrated data collected from each transducer or roll drives four high-resolution analog signal outputs. Individual displays of each transducer/roll quickly diagnose machine "hot spots" and alert system supervisors to potential failures or web breaks. When combined with HTU transducers, units measure both horizontal and vertical tension vectors. Based upon both measurements, software algorithms calculate the precise, resultant force vector, and exact linear tension component.
Total, individual, and differential outputs from two transducers (load cells) permit a comparison of tension signals on either side of a sheet, strip, or web. Digital calibration eliminates time-consuming dead-weight loading and machine strapping. When the DXt-40 web tension transmitter is used in conjunction with Vishay full Wheatstone bridge tension transducers, recalibration is seldom required.
With four integral operating modes, the DXt-40 is easy to install. Simply select the mode that matches your application, enter the transducer zero and span values, and begin system operation. The DXt-40 is designed for use in a range of equipment and systems including pulp and paper machinery, roofing machines, converting equipment, mining conveyors, and winders, rewinders, laminators, coaters, dryers, and felts.
Designers can select from a wide range of communication and network options for total system integration. Easy digital interfaces for the DXt-40 include Allen-Bradley Remote I/O, Modbus RTU, and ASCII. Approvals for the DXt-40 include FM (Factory Mutual) and CSA.
