Vishay Releases New VLMx51 Series of Red, Amber, Yellow, and White Power SMD LEDs in PLCC2 Plus Package With Compact 3.5-mm by 3.5-mm by 1.2-mm Outline
High-Efficiency Devices Feature High Luminous Flux to 30,600 mlm and Low Junction-to-Ambient Thermal Resistance Down to 100 K/W
MALVERN, Pa. — July 19, 2010 —Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (NYSE: VSH) today announced the release of new red, amber, yellow, and white power SMD LEDs in the compact PLCC2 Plus package. The VLMx51 series offers high luminous flux and very low junction-to-ambient thermal resistance for a wide range of lighting applications.
Built on high-efficiency InGan and AllnGaP on silicon technology, the VLMR51, VLMK51, VLMY51, and VLMW51devices offer high luminous flux from 8.5 lm to 30.6 lm and luminous intensity from 2,850 mcd to 9,750 mcd. The LEDs provide extremely low junction-to-ambient thermal resistance down to 100 K/W and power dissipation up to 738 mW, which in turn enables high drive currents up to 200 mA.
These values, when combined with the devices’ compact 3.5-mm by 3.5-mm by 1.2-mm package outline, make the VLMx51 series an ideal choice for internal and exterior automotive lighting, signal and symbol illumination, decorative lighting, architectural lighting, backlighting, marker lights, traffic lights, and all general lighting applications.
For automotive applications, the LEDs released today are automotive qualified AEC-Q101. The VLMx51 devices feature a 60° angle of half-intensity, a luminous flux ratio per packing unit of < 1.6, and are categorized, per packing unit, for luminous flux and color.
The LEDs are complaint to RoHS directive 2002/95/EC, in accordance to WEEE 2002/96/EC, and are compatible with IR-reflow soldering profiles according to J-STD-020. The devices are preconditioned according to JEDEC Level 2a, and offer an ESD-withstand voltage up to 2 kV (HBM) according to JESD22-A114-B.
Device Specification Table:
|Luminous intensity (mcd)||2,850 to 5,600||2,850 to 5,600||3,550 to 7,150||8,000 (typical)|
|Typical luminous flux (lm)||10.6 @
|18.1 to 30.6 @ 150 mA|
|Thermal resistance (junction-to- ambient)||100 K/W||100 K/W||100 K/W||125 K/W|
|Power dissipation||530 mW||530 mW||530 mW||738 mW|
|Drive current||200 mA||200 mA||200 mA||180 mA|
Samples and production quantities of the new power LEDs are available now with lead times of eight weeks for larger orders.
